I’ve noticed some threads popping up about preparing for the SJT in fifth year, so I thought it would be useful to share our learning tools with you in one place.
Lots of people here have been recommending you read our core guidance – Good medical practice. We also have some online resources that can help you revise this guidance and explore our explanatory guidance on specific areas like confidentiality and end of life care.
• Good medical practice in action is an interactive tool where you have to choose what the doctor should do in over 60 different scenarios
• Case studies: we have lots of in-depth case studies that explore some of the principles covered in our explanatory guidance on confidentiality, end of life care, the duty of candour and protecting children and young people
• Our interactive mental capacity decision tool helps doctors decide what to do when they doubt a patient’s capacity to make decisions about their care (it’s based on principles in our guidance on consent and end of life care)
• You can also download our guidance as ebooks to your smartphone, tablet or ereader and read them offline
If you know about tools from other sources that would be useful to fifth years preparing for SJTs, please feel free to contribute.
Hopefully these will support your revision efforts before your SJTs in December or January.
Thanks and good luck!
