New laptop doesn't work

    I got a new laptop from a family friend - an HP Business Notebook - almost three months ago for university. Initially, it worked fine, but now it just... it cannot do anything. If I try and do something, it will not work. Spotify won't play music, nor will YouTube play any videos. Every single tab that I open up on Chrome will inevitably freeze up and I can't do anything. I'm really annoyed about this.

    It has Windows 10 as its operating system, and I know that there have been some problems with Windows 10; my brother especially hates it. I haven't done any updates yet. I'm wary of doing any updates - I'm not technological at all and the last update I did on this laptop (which I've had for about 3 1/2 years) screwed it up royally and I had to take it to PC World to get it fixed.

    Can anyone tell me what is wrong with the laptop, and how to fix it? Or is there any way that I can uninstall Windows 10 and downgrade to Windows 8? Or is it a dodo and can't be saved?

    And how do I do that? Remember, I have no technological skills whatsoever. I am an idiot when it comes to technology.
