I applied to Surrey through clearing, however they have no accommodation left.
Does anybody know the local area and know how much of a problem this would be?

Hi, I'm starting new to the university and didn't get the accommodation i wanted, so I'm going to have to look at private accommodation. I wanted to ask what references would I need and do contracts for private accommodation usually last 12 months?Thanks.

Have a look here for information about renting privately: http://www.surrey.ac.uk/accommodation/private/

In most cases a 12 month contract is the norm, but some can vary depending on the property. I can't give many details about references I'm afraid as again this is likely to vary between lettings agents/landlords. In my experience as a student I've had to supply things like a character reference and you'll usually need to have a guarantor for your rent.

If you're giving up a room in halls I'd love one, I don't really mind the band but I didn't really want to live off-campus!
