All Americans (and Canadians) attending university in the UK or anywhere in Europe (elsewhere in the world is welcome), let's introduce ourselves and where we are from, where we are attending and what year, and a brief introduction about yourself and how you ended up studying at the university you currently study at and what you are (or plan) studying.
Also list any complaints and feelings you have about the diaspora of American students in the UK (and elsewhere). Do you feel a disconnect between American (and north American) students at your university? how are inter-American student relations and social life at your local university?
I feel as though there is a sort of disconnect between American students in the UK, which I feel shouldn't not be the case. I always thought it a beautiful thing if earlier cohorts of American students could facilitate an ease of transition for later cohorts, and a network of interconnected earlier American student cohorts at each university that later arrivals and cohorts can tap into for help. It would also be great if we made a national association of American students in UK with chapters at each British university, and not just a student association per se, but an actual social club and social network with a highly interconnected membership. This would surely have been considered a true blessing for those of us who have experienced the bewilderment and craziness that was adjusting to living alone in a foreign country where everything looks and feels like an entire different plane of existence with mommy and daddy and the motherland oh so many thousands of miles away.
So, with that all said, let us come together on this thread in a sense of American (and North American) camaraderie and kinship.
A call for all American students attending a British University, let us assemble!
