Sorry if this sounds completely thick but how does it work? Is it a medicine course at a university or a course taken at a separate "medical school"

People refer to 'medical schools' because once upon a time lots of them were separate institutions; in some cases they're older than the rest of the university. But most medical schools (possibly all - but I'm not certain about all the London ones) are now faculties within universities themselves - for example, Sheffield medical school is older than the rest of the university, but now it belongs to the university.*

Another reason people continue to refer to 'medical schools' is that our facilities (lecture theatres, labs etc) are often separate from other university buildings, so it feels a bit like a separate entity.

In answer to your other question: yes, Medicine is a degree course. It's five/six years, so longer than most other degrees, but you still apply for it through UCAS like other degree courses.

    Does that help a bit?*
