Hi - been offered a diploma of H.E by the academic services dept after failing my third year in 2006, despite assurances from my tutor (head of dept' that I could submit my dissertation anytime, just to get myself better mentally (sat my finals and got a 2:1 when I was manic). Anytime is now 2016 (been diagnosed with paranoid schizophernia in the meantime by the quacks). The line from the academic services dept is that there is a max of 5 years to transfer credits from level 2 to 3 and that resitting third year isn't an option owing to a 5 year max time reg' and the course content having changed. (And if you delve deeper the max of issuing a degree is 10 years from start to finish etc etc).
They state that I was withdrawn in 2006/07 (not with my consent), although they did write 2008 to say that the faculty had withdrawn me. I have absolutely no qualms about the way that my prof' and faculty treated me, and what has been said is not unreasonable. The questions that arise are:
1. is there any possible mileage in appealing owing to extenuating circumstances and my professor's assurance of "anytime"?
2. Should I just take the dip of HE that can be given gratefully with my tail between my legs?
3. What value is a dip of H.E (never even heard of it before)? I have read that it can be converted to a full degree via the Open University.
Appreciate this isn't a run of the mill type of problem, and if it was a problem in my current industry I'd have the contacts to get it sorted. Any advice sought.
