A question about sociopaths

How could anyone with an ounce of sense be deceived or manipulated by a sociopath?I know sociopaths can be charming and all the rest of it.But surely sooner or later, their deceitful act is revealed as such and you then know how best to deal with them (i.e., simply terminate all forms of communication with them, avoid them - as they are often thought to be rather toxic people.)
It might be a silly question, but... how is anyone ever fooled? :confused:

Because they ARE that good at deception and manipulation. If we alll noticed straight away of course we would run a mile. I have actually just cut contact from someone who I believe has traits of sociopath, what made me realise is how selfish and uncaring they can be, until it suits them of course. They are never willing to say sorry or admit to being wrong either. They turn on you when you do something they don't like.
