As a student that wants to study History at uni, quite pleased as durham uni is second. Happy why? well because iam sure i have a better chance of getting in Durham than i do at Oxford.

Well, I study History at Lancaster and I am frankly astonished by its position.
I wouldn't claim we should be in the top 10 or anything but, really, 41st!
Our research rating alone should place it much higher.

My uni, Goldsmiths, is at No.48. I know it's not the best for History but I expected it to be a bit higher than that. At least it's in the Top 50.

Very interesting - surprises me more further down the table than at the top end.

But any table that uses the RAE needs to be taken with a pinch of salt

I'll be very interested to see the results of the 2008 RAE. Be nice to see which History departments have improved and which have not.

The average tariff at Manchester is only 420 points???? I thought their offers for straight history (V100) was AAA........

Its not the average offer, its the average UCAS tariff a person has on entering. So although they have an AAA offer, the student actually has AAA at A2 and an A at AS = 420 UCAS points. Its why some universities are cited as having tariffs of 550-580.

Of course it is- but it's still nice if your uni is at or near the top :p:

Absolutely, for example:

University I was considering attending aged 17:

85 Lincoln

University I will actually be attending:

1 Cambridge

Boy did i dodge that bullet!

haha yes, but bitter resentment for all us lowly placed uni's.

but i still stand by my point

Was literally about to post those.

Still surprised at the lower end of the table though

oxford drops ANOTHER place to 4th, ouch. DEFINETLY [sic] not applying there!
Reply 19
I'd say that's relatively accurate, except that no matter what any league table says, Oxford will ALWAYS be considered the best.
