I'm an international student from France. I already have an undergraduate degree and I did the first year of my masters degree in France. In three weeks I'm going to start as a postgraduate student for a year in Swansea - I thought it would be a very good idea to spend a year abroad and the university of Swansea has the perfect course for me.
I'm really looking forward to getting there, meeting new people (I'll be living in uni accomodation and will have flatmates), joining societies and sports clubs and living in another country. I'm leaving home and I've never lived on my own before (meaning, at an other place than my parents'.
But I must admit that I'm not the kind of person who makes friends that easily - I lack self-confidence sometimes what happens is that I get on well with people and we talk a lot but eventually we don't really make friends. Also, there is no such thing as freshers week in France, and I'm really starting to wonder whether I should go - I like going to pubs, gigs, small parties and things like that but I don't really like huge parties. I will be joining societies and sports club because there are lots of activities and sports I'm interested in, but then again, I feel that I'm just going to be a member and that I'll have trouble making friends.
Does anybody feel the same?
International student kinda nervous about uni
