It depends on the university. In my first year we didn't get a half term and our only breaks were in between terms, but in my second year we had a 'reading week' in the autumn and spring terms where we weren't timetabled for anything. The reading week was supposed to be for doing coursework and catching up on things, but most people just took it as a week long holiday .
EDIT: Sorry, I saw this from the 'Latest Discussions' section and didn't realised you posted this in the Birmingham City uni section! I'm not sure what they do, but you might get a week off
You have 'reading week' where classes are stopped for students to catch up on their reading. Most students use it as a 'drinking week' or 'sleeping week' though. Pretty much half term.
