GEO: What are inra-plate earthquakes

I'm new to a level geo so please make it simple

Thanks
Intraplate earthquakes are earthquakes which occur in the middle of tectonic plates, rather than at the edges where the plate boundaries are. The mechanisms behind intraplate earthquakes are not well understood, but one possible cause is ancient fault systems (faults are fractures in rock along which movement can be observed) becoming active again
