Does the optional elective modules count towards your degree grade for the first year. Or is it only the compulsory modules that count. (grade wise, not talking about credits. Like does 50% on an optional language drag your grade down if you get 100% on all your core/mandatory modules? From 1st down to 2:1 etc.)

I've been looking at some free standing elective modules, and some of them came as very interesting to me, but I feel they'll be personally very difficult for me -like CSC-10026 sounding difficult for a non artistic person etc . Just need a clear explanation on this.

What I have in mind are:
    CSC-10024 Programming I - Programming Fundamentals
    CSC-10026 Computer Animation and Multimedia
    JAP-90001 Japanese 1
