    What is x^-2 in fractional form (without indicies). Now times that by 1/2.

    When something is raised to the power of a negative power, it is the same as the reciprocal of the value multiplied by the positive power.

    Or: x^{-y} = \dfrac{1}{x^y}

    Hence x^{-2} = \dfrac{1}{x^2}.

    So \frac{1}{2} \times x^{-2} = ...
