Don't want to go back to uni/ taking a year out

    Last year at uni I had a lot of problems with not feeling good (no energy, not eating, not sleeping, not concentrating) and they got a bit better over summer but now theyre just as bad again, i think because of the pressure I'm under at the minute with my reading list (which I have barely started).

    I dont know if this is a good reason to take a year out, just so I can work on the problems like my sleep and concentration so that studying is more manageable, or if i won't be allowed to if it looks like i just want more time to do the reading.

    Has anyone else taken a year off uni for mental health reasons and if you have was it a good idea? I asked some of my friends but they all just said that if i took a year off i would never go back.


    Taking a year out to focus on your health can be a good idea. I left my course a few years ago mid-way through the year (january) as I had some similar problems to you and it really helped to be able to take the pressure off and focus purely on trying to get my head in the right place. It sounds like you might be suffering from depression perhaps, have you seen a doctor about this? It's one thing to take a year out, but if you don't address these problems directly then you'll probably be in the same situation when you do go back.
