    that the University will lower their requirements for you???

    They could use your ps when deciding whether to take you when you're a near miss but although it could happen dont count on them giving you a lower initial offer because of it

    Some universities care more about personal statements than others. Oxford, for instance, hardly cares and wants your referee's statement to be really good because they interview candidates. Others generally only have personal statements to go on so having it as good as possible is always a help.
