    The Mixed Martial Arts Society
Welcome everybody to the TSR Mixed Martial Arts Society! Join here!

I've noticed a bit of interest in MMA and the UFC especially, and I think it'd be great if we could have a place to discuss our favourite fighters, styles, and the greatest sport on earth! Feel free to post videos of training, fighters, highlight clips, cool articles and everything else you feel is relevant to the society! The only rule is... no posting videos of Felony Fights, street fights, brawls or fights that take place out of a sanctioned sporting event. It's bad for the sport and it's already shaky reputation!

A brief history of the sport can be found here , here and here, which includes some of the controversial issues surrounding MMA.

    Is MMA Safe?

    Very much so!

    Are there any rules?

    Plenty.

    Videos

I'll begin... Furious Angels MMA Highlight. Simply put, one of the best highlights out there from Boondock, who happens to have made some of the best videos on MMA out there.

Why Do I Watch MMA by Robert Park... great highlight.

And now... my top 10 pound for pound fighters in MMA...

    1) Fedor
    2) Shogun
    3) Hendo
    4) Penn
    5) GSP
    6) Filho
    7) Anderson Silva
    8) Big Nog
    9) Hughes
    10) Kid Yamamoto

    Flame on!

Add your own thoughts in here, and we'll see if we can get a good collection of videos and discussion!

    First post!

Glad to see that you made it.

I haven't been a fan of MMA for a whole while... and I'm not ashamed to admit that it was season one of TUF that really got me interested in the UFC and MMA as a whole.

Oooo... I can't wait for UFC74 to come along! Can't wait for UFC75 to come along either because I should be going to that one.

... I've seen a little bit of ShoXC and I've seen bits and pieces of PRIDE. I really should start to "copy" my brothers PRIDE collection so that I can watch it all when I'm at Solent. :]

I don't exaggerate one bit when I say that the TUF series was one of the best things for MMA that's happened - SO many new fans! Although it does annoy me when people claim things like Forrest Griffin is top 10 LHW and Brad Imes should be ranked top 10 either :p:

If there's one Pride event you should get, it's Pride Absolute Final Conflict - The 2006 OWGP final. CroCop/Wand, CroCop/Barnett, Barnett/Big Nog, Aleks/Sergei, Arona/Overeeem, Shogun/Snake... that **** was AWESOME! Also, UFC 43 was great, Chuck/Randy, Rizzo, Lindland, Mir, Belfort, Freeman and Telligman. Good times! And yeah, UFC 74 looks pretty ****ing great. GSP beats Koschek, no doubt in my mind. Gonzaga beats Couture, although I can never bet against Randy... :p:

That fight with Anderson was bruuutalll... I think Rich will last longer than last time in the rematch, but Anderson has Rich's number, no doubt about that for me.

LoL... fortunately, I'm not foolish enough to rank either men in the top 10 of their respective weight categories. xD

... but I would have to rank Jason Thacker in that top three bracket. [joking, I'm joking! xD]

I saw CroCop/Wand from that event. Pretty f'kkin brutal beating CroCop handed out if I may say so myself.

If I can get hold of it, I may very well have to check out UFC43. :]

    On the topic of UFC74~

I'm not too sure on the Grove/Cote match... because I kinda think either guy could walk away with their hand held high. I'd like to see Cote come away with the win but I don't think they'd book Kendall in a match to lose.

I'm taking "Big Daddy" over Pellegino. Don't know enough about Pellegrino to really side with him. Joe has his great win over Mishima and... a superly quick win over a coked-up Melvin Guillard. [Nothing fantastic... but meh. :P]

As long as Rush doesn't do what he did against Serra in their WW Title belt, he shouldn't have any problems with Kos. :P

Dunno anything about Alberto Crane... but I've watched Roger Huerta fight a couple of times. He's a pretty decent fighter imo, so I'm picking him to score the win.

... and finally, I don't want Randy Couture to lose against Gonzaga. Absolutely DO NOT WANT! XD :P

    Randy/Gonzaga
    GSP/Koscheck
    Daddy/Pellegrino
    Cote/Grove
    Huerta/Crane
    Babalu/Heath
    Mir/Hardonk
    Aurelio/Guida
    Leites/Jensen

My picks... I sooo badly want Mir to win... but he's so washed up! Babalu should take Heath... Aurelio willl destroy Guida after what he did to Gomi. Grove is a big deal at 185.

Fedor is the man and without doubt the number one Heavyweight in the whole of MMA. In terms of favourite fighters I am sure you can guess one of mine by my username.

Not sure if any of you lads are aware of MMA tracker but it is a site which contains torrents for everything MMA related. Problem is you have to be invited to join it but I am lucky enough to be on it so if any of you are after a specific fight I can hook you up.

    Cheers!

I got negged earlier, with the comment "Your sig disgusts me" - ****in bastard who wrote that didn't even have the courtesy to tell me their name. If they did, I could inform them that the guy getting spiked on his head actually won the fight 30 seconds later.

    No problem

Yeah that is the general viewpoint from some of the idiots around as they still see the sport as barbaric. Fact is, MMA has come a long way from the days of Shamrock, Gracie and Severn, the sport continues to evolve, the fighters are getting better and better and becoming more all rounders and are fantastic athletes. It will continue to grow and eventually be regarded in the same light as British boxing in terms of media coverage, etc in the UK.

I think Gracie, Shamrock and Severn were some of the first good athletes; forced people to learn how to fight on the ground. But all of their last UFC appearances were... unimpressive, to say the least. Especially Rizzo/Severn.

He's not fought for a while, but Vovchanchyn has to be one of the best. Mark Kerr was astounding, shame the guy went to pieces later on. recent good fighters - probably all been mentioned - but Liddell, Couture, Emelianenko are amazing.

Also, in a more general sense, I like anything to do with Brazil's Chute Box, that place has churned out some amazing fighters with great styles.

Icidentally, anyone here against the merger of UFC and Pride? I'm all for strengthening a sport and having a good exchange of talent. But seriously, why did they get rid of knees on the ground? One of the most annoying things about UFC was the stalling tactics on the ground/ in the guard. And while soccer kicks and stomps did add a tactical edge to the game (ie there were consequences if you hit the mat) as well as providing a "true" no holds barred competition- the risks were too great. Although if they're willing particpants, which they will of course be, I don't see why we can't return to the days were headbutts were acceptable. I still maintain a hard unprotected hit resulting in a swift KO (which is by no means the only way a fight can be won) is far less damaging than the thousands of equally - if not more - forceful punches boxers can take throughout their careers. It's all (understandably) about public perception these days, so people don't really see "anything-goes" as acceptable. The image they have is probably Tank Abbot(who I think is actually pretty decent!) style characters brawling, or gary goodridge/herrera brutality.

Good idea for a society, well done to the ForeverIsMyName.

Dana wants to get knees on the ground as part of the UFC unified rules - He objects to stomps and "soccer kicks" - I agree with him, incidentally. Knees on the ground were banned when UFC tried to get recognition and medical sanctioning - One of the guys who was judging whether Nevada and New Jersey should allow the UFC to be state sanctioned saw Wes Sims I think, using knees on the ground, and would only sanction it if they were taken out of the sport because of how brutal they were!

Mighty annoying, I still maintain willing participants should hypothetically be allowed to do what they want. Our friends out east had the right idea, and so do much of of non-western europe/north america. It's a sport with highly trained athletes, and based on usually on some degree of respect. It's not a brawl outside a pub or "bumfights".

Doesn't mean I approve of eye gouging and suspect variants of neck cranks though - but should they want to do it, go to them. I'd hate for anyones life or career to be ruined, or worse, ended.
