Unless medical history is an important part of their suitability for the role and the employer is exempt from that provision of the act, as quite a few are. I'm aware of some police roles (notably firearms, but some others) and some forces where they do ask for a medical history when applying. In a similar (though not as intense) way that the armed forces do.

My point isn't that you may not have to disclose at a later date (where they will make provisions)... It's that you don't have to at interview or application stage (unless for a specialist, exempt role as we've both highlighted - which the general Police doesn't meet the criteria for) - if you need a medical afterwards and are asked to disclose it, thats fine, but the same 2010 act protects the employee from being unfairly disadvantaged because of it.

Hey man, welcome to the internet.

As for you question - its unnecessary, of course they will. Unless of course they are willing to break the law they are there to enforce - and it's not like that happens.

Of course you can get in. Worth noting that you may have to be a dogsbody Special (volunteer) for a year or so to 'support your application', but yes - you are perfectly able to do the job and be selected for it.

I don't know why you bother posting. How do you know that OP, who has in the past and still suffers from anxiety attacks, will pass medical screening? Are you really qualified to say that?

The only answer is we don't know. It might be worth trying to contact occupational health or whoever it's been contracted out to, but they will probably tell you that it's decided on a case by case basis.

Hit the nail on the head; no one is qualified and no one can say. I can only go by my past experiences and I think the OP will be just fine.

Poster has a grudge and has hijacked this thread (as seems his specialty across these forums) to share his hate filled opinions, none of which contribute to the initial question...

Actually, my point is that he doesn't need to disclose it to get the job. It's that simple. At least read my comment's before posting nonsense.

I've told you time and time again that it's best if we cease discussion, that includes you mouthing about me. Im telling you the law: he can choose to disclose it or not at application stage. Welcome to the 2010 Equality Act. It's utterly pathetic that you - as an ex police officer - can't distinguish between opinion and legislation. And it sums up my point entirely about deadbeats that don't know the law they are paid to enforce.

Finally, I have no grudge, nor are my post's hate-filled. Instead, I addressed the question citing employment law (to me that's "contributing to the initial question"). You're a sad, pathetic person who doesn't have the capacity or maturity to be a police officer - it's a blessing you left. I can only hope your nursing school is a good one.

Don't comment about me or mention me again in this post. Let's make that agreement here. Or we can keep the petty arguments going and you can be publicly ridiculed everytime you post.
It's alright mate I've got dreams of being a pilot but I literally sh*t myself on anything higher than 100m

The reply was to state you initially had NO interest in answering the OPs topic; you came here to share your opinions on police most of which are completely false and bias. I never said you were wrong regarding EA but don't act like you really care.

You make me laugh. You have shown you have no interest in a reasonable debate your method is spout a load of one sided text and then tell the other person to clear off just so you have the final word. Your insults mean nothing to me I have had much worse. I hope you feel the power you so desperately desire by telling me how things are going to go (and by publically ridiculed what you mean is you getting a power trip).

Bottom line is you went through red lights and something happened with your mates car (emergency breaking) and you got caught out. Now you hate the police and play the "I was bullied into accepting points" card. Clearly you're pissed because there will be jobs where you will always have to declare this incident; but you need to take some responsibility.

So much more I'd have liked to ask you (especially in regards to your opinion on what the alternatives would be and how you would use police) but clearly you don't want debate. What a way to live your life.

You couldn't be more wrong. You're incapable of sensible debate - you makeassumptions, you overlook facts and when you're backed in to a corner, youbecome defensive and incoherent. You tell me the police is a failing institutionbecause of government funding - making no allowances for their corrupt culture(which you don't even acknowledge by the way), and any relevant point made istwisted and ignored (I see you still have a police officer's mentality).

As for my car scenario... Sadly, no red lights were involved, no mate's carwas involved, and the judge laughed the case out of court (after my Lawyer did)and nobody received any points - never make assumptions. (I’ve previouslytold you this, keep up).

As for my initial response, I stand by it - why would you want to join sucha disorganized corporation which protects sex predators, is corrupt to thehighest level and adopts a 'conform or leave' and an 'us vs them' mentality.

It's all well and good shouting loudly about how I can and cannot debate -if you want my opinions or views, just ask... But don't question my integrity;if I tell you I know of at least four people who have joined the police andchanged completely (be it inner or outer circle of friends), it's true. If Itell you a police officer lied in a pathetic attempt to get me points, it'strue. I'm not one for lying - my very argument here is against lies andcorruption, I'd hardly have a point if I adopted the same practices.

In addition to that, you told me I was wrong to suggest the OP would beperfectly fine to join the police (after I'd highlighted legislation protectinghim/her) and accused me of creating hassle on these forums (when actually, mostof my time is spent helping others in study help or careers sections). But I'dexpect nothing less.

You talk about sensible debate? Drop your assumptions and complete nonsense, and I'll happily engage.

P.s. I can appreciate communities have different experiences with Policeofficers - and targeting of the police here has been of the organization, notindividuals within it (unless otherwise stated - i.e. the ones I personallyknow).

I'm all ears, enlighten me with your debate...
