Dodgy wifi

Hi,
Does anybody else have a problem connecting to online games on xbox(not sure if PlayStation have same problem) tried a few games and none of them connect online which most of us all paying £3000+ to live at uni we should be able to spend our free time doing whatever we want and nobody can go out 24/7 ( I think ). Also can't connect to certain apps/watch to shows like game of thrones/horror story. Tried speaking to a tech guy and he said he thinks it's somthing the uni are doing on purpose and most of us are paying 12'000+ to be here. This is the uni that decide to put the biggest party of freshers week on a Sunday. Anybody
else have this problem/know a way to get round it.
