http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/6963081.stm The US implores both nations to cease hostilities before the situation gets out of hand.

Poland wishes to register its distress in solidarity with Georgia who have also experienced Russian territorial boisterousness following the break up of the U.S.S.R.

Whilst the Russian military have ostensibly denied any knowledge of the incident, it remains highly dubious how a missle which is in Russian military circulation could end up falling in such a contentious region when it has long been observed that Russia has supported paramilitaries and separatist movements in nations which they wish to achieve a leverage.

Poland demands that Russia accounts for, or provides evidence for, its airforce and its sphere of activity over Georgia. However, Poland also considers that the possibility of the weapon originating from Georgia or having been dropped by the Georgian airforce should be considered in the least.
I would like to point representatives to the press release from Russia, sating that Russian planes have not violated Georgian airspace, and there is little/no proof coming from Georgia as to their claims that it was a Russian aircraft they alleged to have fired on.

MOSCOW, August 25 (Itar-Tass) - Russian Air Force has strongly denied reports from Georgia claiming that a Russian aircraft has violated the country's airspace.

"I hereby state just another time that the aircraft of the Russian Air Force have not violated Georgian airspace," Colonel Alexander Drobyshevsky, the chief of the Air Force's public relations service told Itar-Tass.

"All our jets were at the airdromes /at the time when the ostensible intrusion into Georgian airspace took place -- Itar-Tass/ and didn't make any flights in the area," he said.

Col Drobyshevsky also said that the Georgian side shows a tendency towards raising all the issues of alleged violations late at night.

A report claiming that an intruding Russian aircraft was shot down over the upper part of the much-troubled Kodori Gorge Thursday night came from the Rustavi-2 TV channel, which quoted sources in the gorge.

In the meantime, officials at the Georgian Interior Ministry did not confirm the crash of an aircraft, although they said “Georgian forces did open fire at an aircraft that violated this country’s airspace.”

“It crossed over into our territory from Russia and our forces opened fire at it when it was over the upper part of the Kodori Gorge,” an official said.

He indicated however that the Interior Ministry did not have any data suggesting that the aircraft had exploded in midair or fallen to the ground.

The US finds these continued denials slightly silly. We have Russian missiles shot at Georgian towns and we have Russian plane radar signals over Georgian territory, and yet Russia "wasn't involved". Something doesn't quite add up.

As a fellow small ex-USSR nation, Kyrgyzstan finds this action deeply disturbing. We are feeling increasingly threatened by Russia's recent bomber mobilisation, and would like Russia to explain why it feels that this is necessary.
