Undergraduate placement and holidays

Hello all,

I'm starting to look for my placement position now and have seen that some start dates are in July however I've booked and paid for a holiday in July, if the start date is in or before the week I'm going away does anyone know if they would be understanding?

will depend on the employer... it probably just comes down to whether or not it will have a negative impact on them e.g. they're training 10 placement students together in the first fortnight

generally if you have a new job you would expect them to honour any prearranged holidays however some placements are very competitive and since it's right at the start you may find that it interferes with what they need from you enough that they choose someone else, it's worth trying though, it might be that they are happy for you to use a weeks leave for the trip or just start a week later
