How much notice should I take in the Uni rankings?

I am looking to do Business studies and wanted to know how important it is to use
the university rankings table from the complete university guide.

I was looking at Winchester, then looked at how low down it was, so it has put me

Am I right to do this

    Any advice appreciated

Look at the scoring by category, IIRC they score by quality of facilities, community, teaching, etc. Also remember that people can lie in polls, get into polls that aren't about their university, and have a variety of reasons for scoring the way they do. Use them with a grain of salt.

League tables are always dependent on who is doing the classification and what they're looking for. Nevertheless, they're a useful and relatively objective way to see how one institution rates against another. Given that Business Studies at Winchester is hardly PPE, I wouldn't worry too much about the league tables.

Choosing a university based on one league table is perhaps not the best way of doing things, but it's worth doing your research before making your final decisions. For a start, there are a number of different university league tables. Also you've got student satisfaction league tables (so you know you're going somewhere you'll be happy), and factors like location, cost of living, and the course quality.

    We've a few tips here:
