Redox

Can somebody explain how the loss of a hydrogen ion is oxidation? It's really confusing me in terms of oil rig
"Oxidation is loss of electrons (OIL RIG). That means that an oxidising agent takes electrons from that other substance. So an oxidising agent must gain electrons."
Simply put OilRig is
Oxidation
is
loss
Reduction
is
gain
so if anything is lost eg hydrogen / electrons and lots other stuff then it is Oxidation , the old definition was oxidation was a loss of hydrogen so don't get confused look at the new definitions !
