Waitrose Reference?

Hi, around 4 months ago I left Waitrose and have started a new job since then. However my new job requires two references within a month as part of my contract or they can terminate it. I am trying to find a way to get a reference from HR at Waitrose, however I have had no luck yet,if anyone could point me in the right Direction I would appreciate it!
Can you not just contact your ex- line manager?
