I worked it out and the polynomial would have a degree of 2 every time but in the solutions it says a degree of 2^k

Do you get that f2(x) is a quadratic? If so, then every time you apply it, the highest power goes up by 2. If it's not easy to see straight away, work out f2(f2(x)) and see what you get.

That would explain it!

(And when I said "every time you apply it, the highest power goes up by 2", I meant by a *factor* of 2. Sorry about that.)

Bit pushed for time at the moment - I'll see if I can pop back later. But A(theta) and B(theta) are the areas bounded by the axes, the circle, and the line PR.

A(theta) is the area of the zone that it is written in, i.e. between the line QP, the x-axis and the circle. B(theta) is the line RQ, the circle and the y-axis.
