On TSR raising awareness for the imminent extinction of bananas as we know it. The Gros Michel variety was wiped out in the 1950s and 60s by the Panama Disease. The Cavendish variety replaced it and now dominates the global market. Now the Cavendish variety is also under imminent attack by disease. There is a need for more funding so that research can be done to find a replacement banana variety before the imminent death of the Cavendish variety.
