Is dropping uni a couple of times common...

If so was uni just not for them? Choosing wrong subjects and just not enjoying them even through hard work
Why? Doubt its common, but not unknown. Ofc it creates potential funding issues if you intend to try and go back. Of its not for you, then look at the alternatives.
It's not common to drop out/restart/transfer. It is done by a small number of people once but very few people will drop out more than once as they would no longer receive funding for their full course. It;'s not the worst decision in the world to start again on a different course if you've changed your mind about what you enjoy/want to pursue as a career but you should seriously think through it as you won't get a third chance, you must be very sure you're makking the right choice. I think anyone who wants to drop out more than once is either not bothering to think the decision through or has trouble committing to things and pushing through difficult/less enjoyable things. No one will enjoy their course all the time and sometimes you've just got to get on with it.
