Medieval and specifically early medieval stuff, Simon Keynes' page at Cambridge gives you tonnes of links to lots of websites.

Here's a few links from my departments site, linking you to all sorts of history related websites from medieval through to modern history.

Medieval - http://www.le.ac.uk/hi/teaching/med.html

Early Modern - http://www.le.ac.uk/hi/teaching/earlymod.html

Modern - http://www.le.ac.uk/hi/teaching/mod.html

Hope you find these of some use

If you want to search a wider range of library resources, use the bibliography at the RHS, and then a catalogue search like COPAC.

^^^ Wot he said. I often go onto Wikipedia to get general background on topics, and also update and better pages on things I've studied in depth.

I used editing wikipedia as revision for an exam in the first year haha.
I think that http://www.bbc.co.uk/history is very good.

Urgh no not wikipedia - we were threatened on pain of death by our head of school if we ever used it! Let alone reference it.

Mid to late 19th century - http://www.victorianweb.org/

Warwick's History department website is pretty good regarding overview reading for a wide range of modules - http://www2.warwick.ac.uk/fac/arts/history/

Think outside the box! Don't necessarily reference it, but it's fine for background stuff.

THe reason why it's innaccurate in places is because the knowledgeable people don't necessarily contribute everything they might! Editing a page and bettering it really does make you think about the historical debates from either side, and it really is good for revision.
