hey,
I studied Higher Psychology last year and really enjoyed it, I got an A in the end.
The course is okay, I wouldn't say its any harder than any other higher, its just a lot of new concepts. Although there is a Research Investigation which is part of Unit 2 completed about February which is marked externally and is worth about 20% of your final mark.
The exam at the end of the year...
Well there's 3 sections in Psychology
-Understanding the Individual (includes memory, stress, and attachments/early socialisation)
-Investigating Behaviour (research methods)
-The Individual in the Social Context (its up to the school what topics they do from this section; I did Atypical Behaviour & Conformity).
In the final exam, you get two 20 mark questions (so a question on any two of memory, stress, and attachments/early socialisation) This year it was memory and early socialisation. One of them will be split up into about 3 or 4 mark questions and the other one will be more essay style (maybe 12 KU-knowledge and understanding and 8 AE-analysis and evaluation).
Investigating Behaviour in the exam is a short case study which you have to read and then questions which follow it, maybe the maximum being a 4 marker.
The final section is pretty much the same as the first, two questions, one being split up into smaller mark allocations and one more essay style ish!
The exam is 2 and a half hours long and is usually at the very end of May/start of June!

Hope that helped, feel free to ask me anything else!
i studied it as a crash higher in 5th yr and got an A. it isnt so difficult to understand, but there is a lot to remember. theres lists of reserchers and their studies that i was given to memorise so i could mention at least one in each question, but im sure you could just make up peices of research and they'd never notice.

I crashed it in 5th year. I didn't really enjoy it although I think that was partly because it was so badly organised at my school.
The Research Investigation is simple. We did a memory test and actally made some of the results up lol. The write-up only needs to be about 4 pages long.
I managed to get an A though and did little revising for it so I'd say it was pretty easy.

thanks! I had it today and it seemed really good (apart from people having done the questions untill page 40 during the holidays to impress the teacher).
For the reasearch thing we've got to hand out questionaires to people about prefered parenting skills and then analyse them. How is the exam at the end of the year set out? is it like history and you choose from the topics you've covered? What kind of questions do they ask?
