Minimum wage...

How come a lot of my friends get paid below the minimum wage when the minimum wage is £5.35. A lot of people I know get paid less and I wanted to know if the businesses are allowed to do that because it very unfair. If I was in that position I think I'll protest for a higher raise.

minimum wage is only £5.35 for 22 year olds and over. For 18-21 its £4.45, and for under 18s its even less- only £3.30 ph- are your friends over 21?

They are...I didn't know that. Because a few of my friends under 21 get paid like £6 an hr and stuff so I thought the minimum wage was 5.35. I though they put it up last year? Anyway thanx 4 confirming

because some places don't age discriminate, and so pay their workers all the same rate.

Yep alot of people are misled when it comes to NMW. They assume that when they turn 18 they must be on the highest pay scale for NMW, but infact thats 21years.
