Re: Schafer house...any good?
Yeah I actually went to Ikea and got loads of stuff, but didn't buy china cause my dad said there was some at home that my brother had previously used for uni. So I get home and pull it out of the garage and its like floral design porcelain, the best part being there's 1 cup, 1 plate, and 2 bowls. I'm like "great dad...."
Meanwhile my brother bought this fit black china set from Ikea which had 6 plates, 6 side plates, and 6 cereal bowls (which is exactly what I need to be sorted, though I'd probably leave 2 of each at home - 4 is more than enough for one person's needs).
So yeah, wasn't impressed! But definitely check out Ikea, I got so many bargains like 6 tumblers for like £2 (and they were good quality actually), 24 pc cutlery for a fiver, some pans (though none in Ikea seem to have lids, so I'd get one of somewhere else), cheap chopping boards etc etc. They also have really cheap not bad quality bedlinen, but make sure you know your sizes for a single cause they only say measurements on them and not "single", "double" etc. BTW, are any of you guys getting flip flops for the communal showers (I have a real verruca phobia), if so go to ASDA, they've got some good enough ones for £2.
Oh and is "The Range" any good? I'm going there tomorrow to look at their stuff.Last edited by PsychNick; 31-08-2007 at 13:23. -
Re: Schafer house...any good?
Rooms are a decent size i managed to fit a sofa in mine last year the place is a bit of a dump and there does tend to be piss or vomit in the lifts on weekends though pretty antisocial it does the job and has insanely fast internet that's about it. It is near a council state but we never had any issues and it's not like you walk through it every night. The local sainsbury's do 70% bakery after 10pm in the plus column.

Re: Schafer house...any good?I dunno if they'd do that in self-catered and certainly not exclusively for getting the bedlinen pack (otherwise we'd all get it if it involved free laundry service lol). As for the pack itself, I didn't get it personally, I mean I had towels and a few duvet sets anyway. Also I used to sell bedding so I'm a bit of a material snob now haha, and I suspect UCL's pack will contain the cheapest stuff they could find. Plus you could probably get every item they were offering from Tesco and save some of the £50.(Original post by ctsan127)
did anyone purchase the bed linen pack?.... if so is it true that the staff would wash them for you every fornight?????..

Re: Schafer house...any good?Well there's lots of other UCL parking, and not everyone will be arriving on the same day so that minimises it a little. I'm sure they'll make an exception about the permit on this day, or provide an alternative area where people can park - you'd think they could appreciate the situation.(Original post by Vincente)
I was wondering where is everyone going to park and unload their stuff on the 22/23 of September? I know Schafer has a car park but I thought you need some form of a permit to be allowed to park there???? -
Re: Schafer house...any good?I've got a wok, and a couple of of pots and pans, then in terms of utensils erm a tin opener, spatula, kitchen scissors. Usual things.(Original post by a_t)
What sort of cooking utensils are people gonna be taking down with them?
I'm taking a wok, a couple of pots and pans, frying pan and a blender
We have a kettle and a microwave there anyway
What else do people think will be useful? -
Re: Schafer house...any good?
the flats don't come with kettles or microwaves they come with nothing. Though if you're in BG2 you may find a rather good kettle which i left behind and a knife sharpener anyway not the point the point is you don't get anything in the kitchen however your flatmates will probably bring loads of stuff too mine brought a microwave and toaster and various other things. I'd wait till after you've moved in to decide whether or not to buy a microwave plus sainsbury's do a basics one for 25 quid which between 5 is cheap
Haha!! quite true really... well.. thought it's worth a try!
It's bad enough they don't give us an iron!
