Why do radiostations keep playing the same music?????

Why do radiostations such as BBC Radio 1, Capital FM, etc keep playing the same rubbish music over and over and over again? Do the radio presenters not know any good music? Theres loads out there.

Everytime Im driving, I put the radio on and I hear the same rubbish music that I listened to previously. Same ****, different day.

probably because the music is still in the charts... you should go and listen to bbc radio 2 - imo much better
The DJ';s are given playlists, the radio stations load up sales data, number of youtube views etc. into a spreadsheet and then some executives have a meeting to decide what's on the playlist - the DJs will be ordered to play songs on the playlist a specific number of times.

two year old article about radio 1

If you mostly listen during the daytime, that's when they really hammer out the same tunes over and over - but there's more variation in the evening shows... or find another station to listen to

Radio 2 is pretty bad too, it's the same narrow variety of music, albeit 80s pop, as well as middle aged people whining about pot holes on their road and taking shots at younger generations for not being exactly like they were

Because they want listeners and most of them only tune in for so long, so they like to hear the same hits over and again.

Why not just use spotify or pandora? If you dont have internet and cant find a specialised channel then just take your own play lists.

Often the radio presenters have to pish certain records or are limited to a certain playlist. Listeners are what matter and getting as many as you can.

My mum always listens to it in the car and it drives me up the wall
They do have good music sometimes, but it's very samey and their annoying jingle bugs me too
Radio 1 is far worse though

Not a self fulfilling prophecy? The more they play the same songs, the more that is all people hear thats all they buy, hence keeping tje same crap higher up in the charts, which then,of course, gets it mote radio plays.

so do my parents  that's probably why I listen to it - I suddenly `tuned in` when I was like 10, the jingle grows on you - its samey because it has a routine of who does what on what day - I think on drivetime on friday they have a few more songs on compared to other times though

hmm... mind you I think they did play some songs x5 times plus but maybe not in one radio show.
they're probably given the charts and pick the top 3 and think well they must be in the top 3 for a reason :smile:i'll play them 10 times over - like they do with Eurovision songs.

Capital FM only seem to have a selection of five different records at any given time.

I prefer absolute radio.
