Hi Ed,
I'd suggest that you give http://www.accommodationforstudents.com a try -- they're pretty good with listing accommodation for students, and also have an online forum with people requesting to share places, or places that are available to rent.
Another one is http://www.torent.co.uk (I think) -- a bit difficult to get around, but there are some bargains on there.
