Re: AthleticsHa his interview is hilarious too(Original post by eugenius 8)
just saw the highlights, bolt almost knocking that girl down
powell ran well, bolt had to work hard for that
disappointed with lewis-francis
Aha - will be a great race at the Jamaican Trials as their both competing over 100 and 200! Should be a good indication as to what will happen in London!(Original post by specialk_698)
Yohan Blake will beat Bolt at the Olympics! -
Re: AthleticsAhh, Diamond League site seems to be misleading on several fronts. It's a shame, but totally understandable given where he is in terms of injury. Really hope they do televise the B race. Missed seeing him race in Daegu. I think he's a really great sprinter to watch, and he's capable of getting a medal in the olympics provided he stays fit. Ahh right, tht makes more sense, I didn't think that he'd run this season. Gatlin is interesting, and I heard him big-talking about how Bolt should watch out, but Bolt said in an interview that Gatlin had several people to beat before even thinking about bettering him :L He looks likely to get a place on team USA based on his performances so far though. Yeah, I've been really disappointed be Lemaitre. He was European champion wasn't he? And I think he's still to go sub 10 this season. See how he does in the trials.(Original post by erniiee)

Definitely agree about Rome, lets hope NYC..or Paris and Monaco can match/outdo it! And yes aha! So much better than the usual cart - good work from the Oslo organisers!
Yea, I reckon it probably was the temperature, and I think the pointless lane draw too - they should have had Powell and Bolt next to one another so Bolt would be responding to Powell rather than that Canadian who really shouldn't have been given such a great lane!
Ah I agree, THOR is likeable!
I hope Dai's run was just a one off, and I believe he'll come into his best form at the Olympics, just as he did last year (fingers crossed!)
Oh I don't think Gay has run yet this season - the Diamond League start lists are dragging his SB from last year I think! Needs to be sorted out, misleading! should be interesting to see how he does though
Gatlin has surprised me, because he's not young! I wonder how he'll run at the US trials!
And what a talent! He really does have a difficult decision to make - Olympics or Youth Championships?! I'd go for the Olympics (if he made the team) as their in London, and he'll never get to experience that again.
He tweeted you back?! I might follow him just to get a reply from someone in Athletics for once
Bolt is yet to reply to my tweets..
Yea, I was hoping Lemaitre could top 5 this year in the 100m but I don't think that will happen, he's looking sluggish..I really did think he could run into the 9.8s as well! Lets hope he's doing better over 200 than his 100..shame for Clarke that his good indoor season hasn't really translated well into his 100 times.
I don't know whether you've seen Wallace Spearmon run the 200m yet, but he's looking really good this season! Saw him run a straight 150m in Manchester last month, and I must say he looks like he could run sub 20 without too much hassle. I'd tip him as one to watch in the Olympics. Saying that Bolt just said a sub 19.8 is possible :L
Hahaha, he really does look like Thor!
It seemed odd that he was sandwiched like that. I agree Powell and Bolt should have had adjacent lanes, it'd have made a whole lot more sense.
Hope London temperatures are pretty warm so we get some really nice times for all events this summer. It would be awful if it just rained :/
I would love him to go for the Olympics, but I'd forgive him if he stayed on task for the juniors :P But like you said once in a lifetime opportunity...I think he'd have an excellent chance of making the 100m team, given people like Dwain Chambers are so far off the pace. I think he's run faster than either Lewis-Francis or Devonish this year.
Haha, my reel of tweets to Gay and Bolt are of yet unanswered also...one day... -
Re: AthleticsContentious...(Original post by specialk_698)
Yohan Blake will beat Bolt at the Olympics!
Can't wait to see Blake in NY on Saturday. Think we'll have a better idea of where Blake is this season. Wouldn't want to call the Olympics quite yet, though if pushed my money's on Bolt. Fastest man in the world by a distance. -
Re: AthleticsNot bad from him, I didn't get to see the race but 10 flat into such a headwind? Encouraging! Can't wait to hear how(Original post by myfriendSQRT(-1))

Ahaha, yea I read that. I think he's getting a bit over confident, although he is running very well so far this season.Gatlin is interesting, and I heard him big-talking about how Bolt should watch out, but Bolt said in an interview that Gatlin had several people to beat before even thinking about bettering him :L He looks likely to get a place on team USA based on his performances so far though.
Mmm really wanna see him in the Olympic final!Yeah, I've been really disappointed be Lemaitre. He was European champion wasn't he? And I think he's still to go sub 10 this season. See how he does in the trials.
Yea he's making a decent comeback! Did you go to the Manchester meet?! Hopefully he can win an Olympic medal he gets to keep this timeI don't know whether you've seen Wallace Spearmon run the 200m yet, but he's looking really good this season! Saw him run a straight 150m in Manchester last month, and I must say he looks like he could run sub 20 without too much hassle. I'd tip him as one to watch in the Olympics.
Imagine if he manages it at the Olympics..I think his dream performances would be sub 9.5 in 100 and sub 19 in 200Saying that Bolt just said a sub 19.8 is possible :L

It would be terrible! Really praying its good, because even last year it wasn't great in Daegu, there were huge headwinds for all the sprint finals!Hope London temperatures are pretty warm so we get some really nice times for all events this summer. It would be awful if it just rained :/
Definitely, tough decision to make! Glad I'm not him..he's a great talent thoughI would love him to go for the Olympics, but I'd forgive him if he stayed on task for the juniors :P But like you said once in a lifetime opportunity...I think he'd have an excellent chance of making the 100m team, given people like Dwain Chambers are so far off the pace. Ahaha, I occasionally reply to them, lets hope they'll notice some time soon!Haha, my reel of tweets to Gay and Bolt are of yet unanswered also...one day... -
Re: AthleticsSaw it this morning. His start wasn't great, but he picked up a lot of speed in the last 50m winning it comfortably. And he looked very, very relaxed I must say. Seemed to sail through. He said he was aiming to go 9.90, and 10.00 into a 1.5m/s headwind is excellent, actually looked like he could have gone faster. I would've fancied him on today's performance ahead of Blake (who has looked A LOT better before imo). But Gay has a lot of work to get ahead of Gatlin, Dix and co at the trials.(Original post by erniiee)
Not bad from him, I didn't get to see the race but 10 flat into such a headwind? Encouraging! Can't wait to hear how
It does seem like trash talk to me. Like to see him run against Blake before the olympics to see how they measure up!(Original post by erniiee)
Ahaha, yea I read that. I think he's getting a bit over confident, although he is running very well so far this season.
I didn't unfortunately, watched it all on tv though! Would've loved to have been there! Oh yeah, Beijing he got stripped of bronze for stepping out of his lane didn't he? What a disappointment. His PB is actually 19.65 all the way back in 2006. Hope he can get close to that again!(Original post by erniiee)
Yea he's making a decent comeback! Did you go to the Manchester meet?! Hopefully he can win an Olympic medal he gets to keep this time
That would be so exciting! Feel so sorry for Bolt in a way because there's so much pressure for him to set a new WR every major event. If conditions are good though, I certainly wouldn't bet against him running sub 9.55, or even sub 9.5. He's just that good! As for 200m, sub 19 would be a huge ask, but give it's Usain Bolt, perfectly possible! That would be the olympic dream! But whatever he does it's going to be special I think. Saw some vids of test events on the olympic track and athletes have all said it's very fast, so here's hoping!(Original post by erniiee)

I dunno, being able to run a 10.08 would be pretty sweet(Original post by erniiee)

not gonna lie, but definitely a hard decision. Can't wait to see the team GB trials though. So happy they're televised! Ahaha yess! Found out Asafa Powell follows my friend on twitter? (who has run for GB youth though :L)
-
Re: AthleticsI agree, Blake didn't really impress me to be honest. Was hoping he would finally break into the 9.7s here as well!(Original post by myfriendSQRT(-1))

poor him lol. Oh yea from that Daegu meet..he hasn't ever really got back into that kind of form which is a shame. I'd like to see him go 19.7 at least this season!
So true, he has a hard task every where he performs. I was watching the video of him in Ostrava 2010 - he attempted to break the 300m world best of 30.85 by Michael Johnson and ran 30.97 and he was visibly annoyed at having failed aha..I hope he tries to break it again sometime soon! That would be so exciting! I wish the trials were being held in the Olympic stadium to give us some idea of what it will be like!
Do you know when+what channel? Can't wait to see the team GB trials though. So happy they're televised! Ahaha yess! Found out Asafa Powell follows my friend on twitter? (who has run for GB youth though :L)
Haha lucky guy! -
Re: AthleticsBolt sets such high standards for himself, as well as the ones everybody else sets for him! But he knows what he's doing, and I really do believe he is the best sprinter in the world! Would be great to see him break that 300m! That 400m record is still up for grabs too! Not sure there is anyone who's looked good enough to take that WR off Johnson though. Oscar Pistorius hasn't looked great this season. Still hasn't gone sub 46, which he said he was doing all through the South African season. Maybe it's coming off the back of the long SA season into the this one that's been difficult.(Original post by erniiee)

Andrew Osagie also looked very impressive! 3rd when David Rudisha was in the field (what a top class athlete) setting a new PB!
Yeah, it would have made sense to do the trials in London rather than Birmingham, so not sure what's going on there...
They're over the weekend of 23rd-24th June ie two weeks yesterday (day after I finish exams, yayy!!). Saturday on BB2 from 1645-1830 and Sunday BBC2 1700-1900. Times for athletics have been a bit erratic on the BBC though, so I'd check closer to the times. But such a great opportunity to see all the athletes in action though! -
Re: AthleticsYea he does, I wonder what he'll chase after these Olympics. Did you hear he was in another car crash? Haha, he's apparently safe and at home now though(Original post by myfriendSQRT(-1))

I worry Pistorius wont get the A Standard he so desperately needs!
Ah I caught the race on youtube and Rudisha looked so dominant..I hope he can do it like that in London! Osagie is looking great, he's running so well this season! I think his indoor bronze has really raised his confidence
Thanks for the times, I'll try and catch them! All national trials seem to be going on about now! -

just glad he got out of in unscathed! Apparently Powell was involved in another car? Just glad they're both safe tbh!
Yeahh, Pistorius is a worry for me. He doesn't seem to have it in him for the last 100m of a race where he fades significantly. Really hope he does get it, because he is a top, top athlete.
Rudisha is a class act, and on the back of Saturday's performance, I think he can break his own record. He was 0.73 off, so it's not a huge ask to step it up for the olympics.
I'd definitely agree Osagie has come on in leaps and bounds since his indoor bronze. If he carries on like he is, he has a really realistic chance of a medal!
Yeah, I think most national trials are across the same weekend. Heard Jess Ennis is doing 4 events?! Crazy!
Think Andy Turner needs to really step up his game from some of the races I've seen him in, and I'm yet to see Will Sharman compete in 110H. Also Gemili if he's there will be a great watch! -
Re: AthleticsYea would've been terrible if that stopped him from defending his title!(Original post by myfriendSQRT(-1))

I hope he breaks his WR in the final - that would be so impressive.
4 events - that's a huge ask!
Yea he hasn't been great. And where has Sharman disappeared to after his great 4th place in Berlin! -
Re: AthleticsI think Rudisha is more than capable of breaking that record. Yeahh, just hope she does will in all of them!(Original post by erniiee)

It just occurred to me after you said that, that I haven't heard anything about him in ages. I had a look on his website, and apparently he was meant to be running in Rome? But I didn't see him there...hopefully see him at the trials though! -
Re: AthleticsYea, she's gonna have a huge job in London, I think a lot of British hope is resting on her!(Original post by myfriendSQRT(-1))

Re: Athletics
Why aren't Nigeria good at sprinting?
Why aren't they as good as USA or Jamaica?
We all know that black people dominate sprinting.
America has around 42 million black people.
Jamaica have only 3 million black people.
Nigeria has 160 million black people!
They should be dominating the 100m and 200m.
It can't be lack of facilities because Jamaica is hardly a rich country. -
Re: AthleticsIts a lack of tradition. In the USA and Jamaica sprinting and track in general have a strong tradition and are very popular, so those countries continually churn out good athletes and have coaches looking to spot and train athletes.(Original post by TRS-T)

In Nigeria, there isn't a particularly strong tradition of track or sprinting and so there aren't as many places training athletes to become world class sprinters.
I also think its a lack of role models in the sport - think of how many US and Jamaican olympic/world gold medallists or record holders there are and have been. That's not the case in Nigeria..although I would say Nigeria has potential.
Being black does not equate to being fast and dominating sprinting by the way. Natural talent has to be nurtured and perfected to make a world class athlete.

Bolt is yet to reply to my tweets..
