Well, the DPharm is nothing like a PhD. It is a taught course rather than research, analogous to the MD, VMD, DDS degrees they have there. Everyone remotely connected to the health professions are called Dr there, physios, psychotherapists etc. You also dont necessarily need a PhD in industry unless you plan on an R and D career. There are other jobs in industry such as reg affairs, manufacturing etc. You only need to do a PhD if you want to do research, hence a doctorate in research.

In this country its 3 years practical work plus a year writing up and waiting for your viva for most people.
