Re: How to get music off an iPodCan I use the above method but delete some songs from the Music folder on the desktop and then open iTunes and do the rest. Would this mean once I sync the ipod it will delete those songs? Also to delete playlists do I use iTunes? Thanks(Original post by omicronlyrae)
There have been a great deal of threads on this topic.
This is how, for Windows XP and Vista
NOTE: apparently this does not apply to the iPod Touch, only Classic, Nano, and previous generation iPods.
First, show hidden files:
Then go into (My) Computer > name of your iPod > System (on newer iPods, the folder is named iPod_Control), then copy the "music" folder to any location. Your desktop is probably easiest.
Once this is done, right click the folder you've just copied, and select properties. Untick "hidden", click OK. When a box appears asking if you wish to apply this to all files and folders of just that folder, choose all.
Then open iTunes, go to edit > preferences > advanced > check the "Keep iTunes Music folder organised" and "Copy files to iTunes Music library on import" boxes and then use the File > Add Folder to Library command to add the Music folder into your library.
The reason behind doing this is that music is placed onto your iPod in random folders in a random order but all ID3 tagging is left in place, so importing them into your library fixes the mess for you automatically and gets your music back too. To clarify, this means all your music is organised and named according to ID3 tags, so when it all gets re-imported, all the files re-gain their correct names and are put in the right folders. -

I am using Aniosoft iBackup to transfer music from iPod to computer.a great third-party program which enables you to transfer music, movies, podcasts,TV shows, photoes from iPod/iPhone to iTunes and computer as audio files too. And both the backup in the storage device can be recovered and restored with no any change and no any risk. And the data in the iTunes is quite in accord with the iPod's data including its playlists, rating and etc.
So this one is also an useful backup program for iPod/iPhone users. It's a necessary tool especially for iPod/iPhone users who happend to have a new computer and lose iTunes' data on the old ones.
I found the solution at Yahoo answers and i'll show it here since i'm a person who likes to spread words after using something amazing.

Re: How to get music off an iPod
Just thought I'd mention, for those with an iPod Touch, SharePod is absolutely fantastic, and free!
I have just copied ~3000 tracks from my Touch to an external HDD, no problems whatsoever. It can even organise the files however you want them, and rename the files based on the properties (customisable to include whatever details you want) as it copies them.
You do need iTunes 7 or higher installed for it to work, but other than that, it's almost perfect.
