I would think so. Accountants are needed for all sorts of things in business and legal things.

I think so, and apparently accounting graduates earn more than other arts graduates.

Chem, economics, english lit., french, history, maths, physics and spainish.

whereas subitable ones: eng lang and psychology.

and micky ones: Bus studies. law and sociology

And why is Sociology more of a 'Micky' subject, than Psychology? The subjects take very similar approaches to their methods of attaining 'evidence', and I studied both last year. I fail to see on what basis it is that you claim Psychology is a more respected subject.

I still found english lang a lot harder than english lit.

Quoted from Cambridge Entrance Requirement
http://www.cam.ac.uk/admissions/undergraduate/requirements/#course

"The list below details the A level subjects that together provide a less effective preparation for our courses. To be a realistic applicant, a student will normally need to be offering two traditional academic subjects (ie two subjects not on this list). For example, Mathematics, History and Business Studies would be an acceptable combination of subjects for a number of our courses. However, History, Business Studies and Media Studies would not normally be considered to be acceptable as this combination contains only one subject not from the list below. Similarly, for students studying for the International Baccalaureate not more than one of the subjects listed should be taken at Higher Level to count as part of the Diploma."
* Accounting
* Art and Design (see also Architecture)
* Business Studies (see also Economics)
* Communication Studies
* Dance
* Design and Technology (see also Engineering)
* Drama/Theatre Studies
* Film Studies
* Health and Social Care
* Home Economics
* Information and Communication Technology
* Leisure Studies
* Media Studies
* Music Technology
* Performance Studies
* Performing Arts
* Photography
* Physical Education
* Sports Studies
* Travel and Tourism

Edit: Basically if you applying to oxbridge.. try to do 2 or 3 traditional subject bearing in mind most of your competitors would have A predicted with 3 traditional subjects.

I've heard from a few people Philosophy and Media Studies are Mickey Mouse courses, but I want to make sure. :tsr2:

I wouldn't think philosophy is in the same group as media studies.:frown: If you wanted to study sociology of some other programme which is considered 'mickey mouse', then clearly your best bet is to do sociology + 2 or 3 stronger subjects. for example

To do sociology: Sociology A2, Biology A2, Chemsitry A2, Mathematics A2 and English AS.

That would be a better combination. And, ironically, neither is american studies a mickey mouse subject.
Im doing a mickey mouse degree, so what? Im studying at an ex poly, so what? :p: :biggrin: I cant fricken wait!

Philosophy is definitely not a mickey mouse subject at all, in fact in my opinion is one the hardest subject i've done because to be able to do this subject you need to be great at english and having great analylitic skills to be able to intrepret what philosophers have to say. At alevels it made me go crazy lol!

aye, so much to remember when I was studying Psychology.... can't remember how many studies we had to do, but definetly not easy.

Bottom line: for the vast majority of universities, once you have taken specific subject requirements into account, any A-level is fine. Don't get hung up on it.

There's a broad acceptance that the most rigorous A-levels are modern languages (unless you're a native speaker!) and physics/maths/chemistry. A few subjects - media, communication, pe - have a bit of a bad reputation but are generally acceptable anyway.

If in doubt, do what Cambridge advise - study your wacky subject alongside a couple of solid 'traditional' A-levels.

i know i cant belive its a micky mouse...oh well..but yeah its hardddddd
I'm doing Specialist Makeup Design... would that be mickey mouse? :biggrin:
Basically the subjects that you don't need at A-level to do a degree in are kinda "mickey-mousey"

Technically, you don't need A-level law, or A-level business to do degrees in these subjects. It's not that they're easier than other subjects (though some of the seriously are, *cough*film studies*cough*) thay're just not as academic, strictly speaking.
