no. I personally would not be able too. If you want to have some free time to go out, socialise a bit etc, it's gonna be difficult.

I knew a couple of people who worked part-time; I think it's tough to fit everything in though.

And after all my self-depricating rants I was today given a college!

St Hugh's. Hard to tell much from the photographs, although I hear the gardens are lovely and you can walk on the grass!

Congrats!!

Hi all, I received an offer for the MPhil in Politics (European Politics and Society) a few weeks ago, but didn't confirm it yet because I will probably not take it up...
Do you know whether I would still already receive a college offer at this point or whether you can only get a college offer if you already confirmed your departmental offer?

Many thanks in advance!
Yay offer from Lincoln, first choice! So exciting, looks like I'm going to get to live smack bang in the centre of Oxford. So from Lincolnshire to Lincoln College! Hope to see some of you there
Offer from St. Hilda's! Not my first choice, looks quite nice though. Like the placing beside the river

Ooooh congrats!!! It's good to see that most January deadline people have heard back!
Lincoln does look amazing, I hope I'll join you there once they make decisions for the March deadline!

Nice! I'll be at Hilda's too. What will you be studying?
I'm doing the MSc Theoretical Chemistry. So we will see each other I guess  Was Hilda's your first choice or 'did you end up there'? I made my peace with it after I've seen the river and the sporting acivities offered

Very jealous. Lincoln was my first choice but unfortunately they aren't big on economic history - should have checked that before I applied really!

does anyone know whether masters students at oxford generally manage to work part time as well ?

Trust me, you won't have the time for it. You will fail your degree or have zero social life or both if you do...

This is Oxford, remember. ;-)

Just out of curiosity, did Lincoln send you an email to say that your application was unsuccessful and that you would be reallocated to another college, or did you just hear from Saint Hilda's? (Sorry if you've already mentioned it, I don't recall reading it!)
How do you know when they are big on a subject or not, the number of tutors or fellows teaching that particular subject?

Saint Hilda's actually looks really beautiful and peaceful, you're lucky!

One of the criteria upon which colleges select applicants is whether there is any overlap between the proposed research project and the academic staff of the college.

In my case there was none and I was already a not particularly strong candidate (as said above). I did not take the academic-fit criteria into account when selecting a college and, in retrospect, I ought to have done.

I heard from Lincoln after I contacted them to request the outcome.

Oh and I've been placed at St Hugh's, not St Hilda's

I applied there, for various reasons, among other things that their accommodation is very close to both the college and the Iffley road sports complex.
And when I visited the college on the open day it looked really nice and friendly, and the MCR looks active.

Oh sorry about that, it's still early-ish in Canada, my brain is still sleeping haha!
A really good friend of mine did her undergrad at St. Hugh's and absolutely loved it! She kept saying that the fact that it was a bit out of town gave her the feeling of really "going home" after days at the library or going to lectures.

I really hope you enjoy it there!
