Re: Oxford Graduate Application 2012/13Lucky you - Oriel's lovely. Congrats.(Original post by ACC_21)
quick update for everyone - I just recieved a place at Oriel ! Not my first choice but very happy (need to do some investigating though, don't know much about it!) -
Re: Oxford Graduate Application 2012/13Congrats - what course are you down for?(Original post by h3l18)
I got St Anne's.
Went there today. A pretty nice place, a bit smaller than I expected though. -
Re: Oxford Graduate Application 2012/13
Thank you to everyone for your congratulations - Oriel does look lovely indeed! Has all of the things I was looking for
I seem to remember that one or two other people also got accepted into Oriel - get in touch if you are still checking TSR and we can talk accomodation etc
congrats to everyone getting college places, the waiting is nearly over for everyone!! -
Re: Oxford Graduate Application 2012/13
I'm currently debating which accomodation to go for...
- A-B grade accomodation is a mile away so its far, but nicer and I think there are many rooms here so maybe there is more of a sense of a graduate community...
-C-D grade rooms in college which are less nice, but in a central location
I get the impression there are less rooms in college so maybe there isnt much of a graduate "community" feeling...or maybe it feels more like a community because its in the college so theres the library/MCR? heh ... choices choices...
can anyone currently at Oxford contribute to the rectory road/staying in Oriel dilemma ? -
Re: Oxford Graduate Application 2012/13Well Oriel (not all colleges do) offers college accomodation for all graduates and you choose on a form which grade room you would like, first choice and second choice. They say that its unlikely you wont get your choice...(Original post by janjanmmm)
Do they give you a choice? My understanding is that they offer you something, and you can accept it or not, period.
And so if the website says A-B rooms are in one place and C-D rooms are in another, you can BASICALLY choose where you go... but yeah you cant "choose" per say -
Re: Oxford Graduate Application 2012/13
Well done everyone on your college offer!
Gosh, I applied early December for the Jan deadline, and still waiting on what college. Surely almost 6 months is excessive.
I have a feeling that because its been so long, I may be in the pool. Has anyone heard from St Johns, yes or no wise? -
Re: Oxford Graduate Application 2012/13It looks like what they say is that you can state a preference, but there is no way they can guarantee you get what you want:(Original post by ACC_21)

Good luck, though! Will I get my first choice of room grade?
We do our best to accommodate all grad fresher requests but can't guarantee that you will be assigned the grade or location you ask for - it will all depend upon the demand. Priority for choice is given to those students who return their accommodation preference forms before 31 July, but it is not a "first come, first served" policy. If the demand for a certain type of room (ie en-suite, main site, etc) exceeds supply, names are drawn from a hat in order to ensure fairness.
When will I find out about my room allocation?
Because of the unpredictable nature of the graduate fresher process, room allocations are not finalised until September, usually two weeks before your arrival date. Do not be alarmed if you do not hear from the Accommodation Manager immediately. Please be patient -- she will be in contact with the details of your room allocation in due course.

Re: Oxford Graduate Application 2012/13Well maybe we can liven things up a bit(Original post by The Lyceum)
You're welcome. Incidentally, I think with things like the MCR they're always looking for people to get involved. Its ever expanding, like I said. Also we share certain things (like Hockey) with St Johns so there's always that side of the club things too.
.
Having said that my app with St Anne's is still 'under consideration' and I may still get pooled elsewhere. O the misery. -
Re: Oxford Graduate Application 2012/13yeah I mean its not even a big deal, all the accomodation is nice! Its just that with an Oxford offer, college offer, exams finished.. I have nothing to worry about heh so I'm just finding little things to think about :P(Original post by janjanmmm)

Good luck, though!
Just thought I'd ask if anyone knew the accomodation that's all and had advice on the best place to be, didn't mean to come across as if I was "choosing" where to go

Re: Oxford Graduate Application 2012/13Oh, don't say that! Surely they can't delay the whole pooling business any longer... If we are to accept/decline our dept. offers by 1 June (only TWO weeks time from now), then they should also tell us what college we're going to be attending before then... Well, one can hope anyway. Presumably they forwarded our applications there because they're not oversubscribed colleges..(Original post by cyberpoet)

Having said that, I'm well chuffed at the prospect of St. Hilda's. Free gym, it's by the river, informal atmosphere, the music hall... sounds lovely

I suggest you check up with your department though. They will know where your college app is currently at, and can inform you. :-) -
Re: Oxford Graduate Application 2012/13Haha I hope you're right; any more pooling will kill me.(Original post by misha j.)

I like St Hilda's and used to go there for tutorials often. Congrats on the offer

Re: Oxford Graduate Application 2012/13Yes, a few of us from the March deadline have already heard back. I got an informal email on the 18th of April, and a formal offer 5 days later!(Original post by cccsan)
Has any march deadline applicant heard back from Oxford? I'm not talking about colleges here...Thanks!
