How important is a passport?

I read on the accommodation website that I have to show a passport or driver's licence to receive my key but I don't have a driver's licence and I sent off my passport ages ago to apply for a loan to pay for my masters. I keep chasing up the bank but they still haven't sent it back. I have sent an email to the accommodation office yesterday but still have no reply. I also keep phoning them but have to wait for ages and eventually give up (or lose connection). Does anyone know if this is something I have to produce? Maybe I can collect the key and show them my passport at a later date (when I finally get it back).

will you not need proof of ID when registering?

u definately will need some sought of id

I was told I wouldn't. I just need to show a copy of the contract.

maybe not for accommodation . . .but for registration

Registration was done online so no photographic ID was needed.
