    It's all about practice, mate.

Just make sure you use all the correct fingers on the correct strings, and force yourself to take it slow.

    That's the only way .

I fingerpick a hell of a lot (for pretty much anything that isn't rock/metal) and it's really good to be able to do, and a neccessity for any kinda classical playing.
(Though whether i'm any good at it is another matter entirely! :p:)

I didn't 'learn' it as such though, just went for it
Why not just have a go sometime?

    uth =]

Alright no need to be patronising...

I kinda meant give it a better go lol :p:
Basic fingerpicking really isn't as hard as people make it out to be i don't think, just takes a bit of getting used to if you're used to a pick.

You need to find a relatively easy song that uses as many individual strings as possible (frequantly of course, most music uses all the strings, you need to find some classical music). You need to get used to using your thumb for the EAD strings and your individual fingers for the GBE strings. I'm sure there's some good tutorials on the internet somewhere...
I'll try and find the song that got me good at fingerpicking somewhere and send it to you, PM me in a week or so if I forget (I'm behind a school filter so can't really do much).

Ah lads I've been trying for ages. I can do a bit but I'll be practising away, making it a priority now! Cheers for the links via pm btw.

Starting dead slow is a real protip, even if you have to go literally 40 bpm or less just to get your fingers in the right order. Then you can get round to cranking it up.

    :ditto:

I fingerpick on the uke, badly. It means that if someone says "play us a song" I have to say "well, I'm a rhythm player really, and I just like to strum along in sessions. I can play tunes, but I only really do that when I just doodle mindlessly, which isn't quite the same thing."

Perhaps I should just compose and perfect a party piece to play on all occasions.

I'm not sure if you agreeing with what I meant lol. I meant that I find it very hard to take things slowly on guitar - I always want to speed up and then get annoyed when I can't do it fast :p:.

I am able to fingerpick reasonably well, I would say. Not amazingly, but I can *do* it .

Nah, I was agreeing with that, but then went on to talk about something completely different :p:

That one is nice to play though, flows under the fingers and isn't excessively complex.
