Default What's the best kind of mouse for a laptop? Opinions wanted.

So far I've looked at what seem to be the four main kinds:
  • Wired
  • Wired but retractable
  • Wireless, with a little USB stick
  • Wireless through Bluetooth
Has anyone had any experience with any of these? What's the battery life like on wireless mice? Is a retractable cable useful or just a pain? Or is there anything else I should know?

Thanks in advance

Aw man, mice are a godsend - I just cannot stand the laptop touchpad things.

I'm using a nifty Logitech wireless mouse with a USB stick. I've been on the same battery since I started using it (about 2 weeks now).

The best thing with the USB stick types is that to save battery you just click the USB stick onto the mouse and it stops using battery. Handy if you are leaving your laptop on standby for a while whilst you go out and get a takeaway or something.

if you have bluetooth, get a bluetooth wireless mouse - saves occupying a USB slot, and works really well.

Wireless mice are cool. I have a "Microsoft Wireless Notebook Optical Mouse".

I've got a wired (mini) mouse (Microsoft Notebook Optical Mouse 3000) and it's pretty awesome, a tip I learned from a friend is that Microsoft make excellent mice , so try for one of them if possible too. Wireless mice can be a serious pain with batteries in my opinion, and retractable mice are just odd. But handy if you don’t mind the odd mechanism they use. It's all down to preference.

I use wired, they always work and they're cheap.

logitech mx revoloution.
costs a decent bit, but well worth it.

i put decent battery in mine and it says on the control panel it will run out in 78 days. been using it constantly for a month now. so its long lasting.

its usb wireless stick. and the wireless stick slots into the base of the mouse for storage and protection when not used.

it's not exactly a laptop mouse though, is it? the revolution is that full-size mouse with 3 scroll wheels isn't it?

having a laptop-sized mouse? that's a full size mouse. i know i wouldn't be able to fit that into my laptop bag.

then again you do have an uber laptop which isn't exactly small (17", i assume - i can;t see them fitting those spec into a 15&quot

yeah 17". gaming on 15" was horrible!

i suppose in the end it all bears down to comfort. i used small mice before and i ended up getting cramps in my hands. had to forgo using a mouse for a few days to relieve the pain.
and the bag size helps aswel. with the laptop itself, charger, cd's, headphones and a mouse your stuck for space so i suppose a smaller mouse would help.

or a bigger bag

my mouse is wireless usb stick, but it can also plug in to another usb port to charge up whilst using it. which i thought was a nice feature.
