Welcome to TSR Wiki. Recently there have been a lot of changes on TSR and the Wiki side of the site has been more fully integrated in to the forum side of things. Some of you will already be familiar with the wiki, but I would guess for many of you it will be a new thing.

Below I'll tell you a little about the wiki and how you can get involved in editing it. If you think something should be added to this thread then please let us know in the About Wiki Forum.


What is the TSR Wiki?
It is a collection of useful, editable articles and information, written mainly by students (but sometimes by other people who want to help students), that are of direct interest to UK students either in an academic or social capacity. It is the "more-static" sister of the TSR forums.

The main wiki sections listed on the Wiki home page give a good indication of the direction we want the content to take:

What is the TSR Wiki not?
It is not another Wikipedia. We do not want articles on anything and everything. We only want articles and information that are directly relevant to UK students.

Who can edit the Wiki?
Anyone who is a member of The Student Room can edit the wiki.

What username and password do I use on the Wiki
The same one as you use on TSR. If you are logged in to the forums then you are now also logged in to the wiki.

So what does the "Wiki Support Team" title that some users have mean?
To ensure that we develop the wiki as quickly and effectively as possible we appoint particularly committed wiki contributors to be Wiki Support Team members.

What is the "Wiki Support Team" responsible for?
The ''Wiki Editors'' have recently been renamed the ''Wiki Support Team''. The team is there

• because they have substantial experience at editing our wiki and have made significant, sensible additions in the past.
• to ensure that all sections of the wiki are appropriately structured and easy to use for everyone,
• to ensure that every single page contains enough content to be there, and that the content is sensible (and flagging it for development, or deleting/editing it as appropriate)
• to add content themselves
• to copy relevant stickies / helpful posts from the forums and editing them into wiki pages.
• to drum up activity from other users to come populate their section.
• to offer help and advice in the About Wiki forum to other members about editing the wiki.

How many "Wiki Support Team" members are there?
It is not a fixed number and the policy on this may change, but for now the idea is to have just enough to ensure that the wiki developments can take place and assistance given where needed..

OK - So I want to help. What do I do?
Well either just dive straight in and start editing or adding bits to sections of the wiki you are interested in, or even better...

Look at the About TSR Wiki subforum and you'll find a To Do List Sticky posted by the Wiki Support Team. Pick something that needs doing and sounds interesting and either offer your services, or just get on with it.

How do I edit?
Click here for the TSR Wiki Editing Guide. The page also links to other articles offering help on writing specific types of pages, such as university guides and subject guides.

We also have a couple of video tutorials to guide you through editing the wiki:

• Basic Wiki Editing Video - the basics needed to edit any article
• Advanced Wiki Editing Video - more advanced techniques such as tables, images and categories.

If you want to have a go a editing, but do not feel confident to do it on a real article, have a go in the practice area.

I think a page needs deleting/moving/renaming or is involved in an edit war. What should I do?
Hopefully you will not see many problems with the wiki. If you do, take a look in this thread for the guidelines on how to deal with problem pages and edits you come across on the wiki.

What do I do if I get stuck / need help?
Just ask for help in the About Wiki forum - someone will come to your rescue.

How come some pages have company logos on?
To help us give the wiki an initial boost we have made a number of partnership agreements with companies who have particularly good student-related content in areas where we are light on content.

We publish their content, and then our users start to edit and evolve it. They get the recognition and branding as well as the right to re-publish the evolved content. We get the initial critical mass of content needed to make the wiki take off.
