First week at UNI! How was it? Better/Worse than expected?

First week at uni - how was it?

Hey! If this is your first year at Uni I was curious to know where you are and if you like the place! Having fun at the beginning? Disappointed? Did it exceed  or miss  your expectations?

I'm still only just beginning, but so far all has been well.

I wasn't overly panicking about it beforehand, but I did get a bit 'WOAH!" when I got to registration and couldn't fathom out what was going on.

This morning was a bit mad too. Nobody was really sure who was supposed to be where, but it felt OK because a few of us had formed a little group - so we didn't look like clueless prats alone.

I'm just dying to get into the academic stuff. I'm sick of all this induction palaver already

Where are you at UNI? What course you taking?
I've still got a year left but can't wait.. just sounds so exiting to start all over again, new people new reputation new life new country (I'm currently in Italy) :P
It was my first day today, and it was fine! It was more 'I talk, you listen' which I was expecting and I managed to remember 19 names!!!

Tomorrow is our theory day, so more listening I guess, but I'm happy with that - wouldn't want to be in at the deep end right at the start.

It was odd though, as a girl from my secondary school is in my makeup group! Wasn't expecting that at all.

I'v been here for 4 days and i'm hating it so far. I wasn't expecting to enjoy freshers fornight...i think it's so overated and desperately want it to end. i really can't wait to start my course....it seems really fascinating.
I started last week for the ''week zero'' induction basically and I found tht sooo tedious n quite boring bt i guess it was for my own benefit.

Started proper lectures yesterday and im pretty interested or even more keen to get stuck into the Criminology HOWEVER, im not soo sure on the Sociology! Will give it a bash for the year and see how I go.

Hey don't worry you'll get through the first few weeks.. don't think first impressions are ever great but you might enjoy and discover a new side to the uni you'll adore.. and part of that is in the course! What courses are you doing/taking?

I live not far from the Uni so makes no sense me living in halls however, im finding it quite hard to socialise with other students from my course. I joined yougo in the summer and iv talked a little bit to those who i recognised n tht but still sorta feel a tad left out. The fact that the Freshers block passes sold out, has thrown me even more to making new friends.

Im doing the social and policy sciences side of the Criminology. Very interesting so, hopefully will enjoy the next 3years of that part.

Have you already started?
Don't worry.. don't know if you're into psychology at all.. but you get positive benifits by writing down and expressing yourself over bad experiences.. not when you're happy.. so it might be that here you've just seen people trying to find comfort and not feel like they're the only ones in a certain situation, while the partiers/drunkards (and obviously not only them..) are outside doing other stuff..
you never know

I'm going up on sunday, so reading about people getting left out is just making me.. freak.
I understand what you're saying though. For every person having a rubbish time, there are loads having an awesome time.
^^You'll be fine - just make sure you go to all the events possible - and you'll have a fabbo time.

Im being kinda left out cuz im not in Halls and its hard to make friends if you dont have flat mates to socialise with. But also I didnt buy the freshers block pass my Uni had on offer - so kinda my own fault reali and im knida suffering for it.

Been here (Uni of Kent) 10 days. So-so. It seems to flucuate wildly. One day I feel good, other days really depressed. Have yet to make a friend, I talk to quite a few "corridor-mates" but I always feel like I'm on the outside, maybe talked to if no one else is around.

I still have no idea of the course and I'm seriously beginning to think I'm doomed to live life as a loner.
Why is no-one enjoying it? :frown: It's making me scared, lol.

Those enjoying it are out partying and other such things. Those who aren't (like me) sit by a computer and whine about it on the internet
Have you forced yourself to face scarily social situations? I think thats gonna be my method of overcoming the shyness.

I'm doing Psychology....i love my course so much..i've been researchng course options and because my uni is so big and has so many staff i can do options on nearly anything ranging from mandarin to egyptology. I'm going to do a module in the history of madness which looks at things like witchcraft and how mental health illnesses have been percieved throughout history etc. This one person on my course is even going to do a module in african drumming!

I take back my last post i was just posting that during one of the boring periods when there is nothing to do :s-smilie: . My flatmate came and invited me to a party on the ground floor and i had a great time  . I met some really cool people who seem more on my level and they feel just as worried as i am about people grouping off....and we exchanged numbers too. The really strange thing is that they live in the same halls as me and i haven't even met them. (I live in the biggest self catered hall). Plus i bumped into this girl off my course and she invitied me for coffee tomorrow...she's canadian and i love canadian accents. There are so many people form all over the world it's unbelievable. I don't feel like i'm in the UK anymore. I've met people from Iceland, Germany. Saudi arabia, America, Sweden etc. I love my uni!!!

I have mixed feelings about uni sometimes i really hate it other times like tonight i love it. I even met some people of TSR today!! Tomorrow my opinion will probably change. There's going to be a barbeque on saturday that some students on the groud floor are throwing....students for all the other halls keep coming to ours, it's like party central! I'm sad that i'm not close to my flatmates though....they're really nice it's just that we're so different and have nothing in common.

WOW!!! That is seriously something!!! Are you also allowed to attend whatever lecture you want even if you don't take the exam? Like drop in and listen if you're interested?
