What is Hertfordshire uni like?

Hey I'm planning to put Herts as one of my uni choices. Can anyone tell me what the uni is like? Is is a nice area? Good accomodation? Nice people? What are the good and bad points in general? Thanks

i am in my second year and i am very unhappy with most things about the way my computer science course is run. Every day I find mistakes in our coursework, even in the specification sheets for our tests which you would think are looked through more than once...besides the nightlife is so bad I wish I went to leeds...the only plus is that herts is near london...

My boyfriend lives in Hatfield, it`s not a great place. The university doesn't seem too bad, but the area it's in is awful. Night life's rubbish, knife wielding chavs everywhere after dark round the Galleria (the big shopping centre, which isn't that bad), most of the town looks run down and just generally has a bad rep. Mate of mine who lives quite close to the uni had a party a couple of months ago and had pretty much all his valuables stolen by a gang of chavs who crashed (this isn't a one off occurance). Wouldn't recommend it. On the plus side St. Albans is 10 minutes down the road on the bus and is much, much nicer.

yeh hatfield aint really the place to be, i go there by car so i get in and get out asap lol.

but every town has chavs and people that steal etc so thats typical.

people go st albans/watford for nightlife. but thats not good enough!

I really like herts even though i agree about the second year business school! all my lectures etc are crammed into thurs and fridays! I personally find the staff really friendly and helpful..

ok i don't go there, but I visited my friend who's a first year there and found everyone I met really friendly. i stayed one night on the dehavilland campus and the flat mates seem to get on well, I think you guys live in flats of 12, or is it 2 groups of 6 per flat?? that's a good opportunity to get to know your flat mates really well as you live, study and socialise together, and my friend has become really close to the girls she's living with. As for nightlife, yes there's not a lot going on in Hatfield but my friend enjoys going to the uni bar or whatever it is Font, and the uni organises weekly trips (which you can always get a cheap taxi to any night) to Batchwood Hall and Destiny in Watford which are both amazing nights out if you like clubbing.

nightlife can b a bit repetitive but depends how many years u been going out drinkign for... as with most night clubs same music is played etc

what ive noticed this year and working in union know this, is that freshers are not going out much at all this year...quietest on record.

the night where acts come n celebrities are fridays which is also the day alot of freshers go home...

the union bar is mainly full of 2nd/3rd years

( there used to be loads of fun n games on stage back in the day but due to the whole drink responsibly thing the union isnt allowed to do them anymore which isnt as fun )

one advantage is that herts has the the biggest summer ball in the country with big acts

one thats been asked to headline this year is huuuuugggeeee so hope they agree

dont come here for media course tho...its a joke! they have no idea!

im suprised at how many people actually come here

i dont think the uni is that good at all

do most of my work at home

the nightlife is not too good - have to get coaches to the big clubs!

the teaching isnt all that, you can slack off 3/4 of the year and get away with it, nobody cares a great deal

&&& other universities should be higher in your list if your planning to go uni soon (if your ambitious)

IT depends on what course you do. It is pants for some courses but for things like physiotheraphy and nursing studies, psychology and engineering it is quite a good uni. I graduated from there and I'm working in my field now.

Very mixed replies I see but all of it is true I'm afraid, I have had only 1 bad experience with the knife wielding chavs which I'd like to forget, I'm alive though! Stayed there for 4 years too
I'm a first year at the moment and i had all these doubts last year. Thing is Herts is a good uni and just cos it aint in leeds or manchester etc doesnt mean you dont have a good social life. The elehouse and the font can get a little boring at times, but you can gaurantee theres always a theme night or some event going on.

Secondly the uni do buses everywere and you can get to liquid on mondays and batchwood on thursdays for £3. Also its about the friends you make not about how many clubs there are. If you've got a good group of friends then you can guarantee they'll always be something good to do.

The people who say the uni is crap is because they arn't making the most of their time here and decide to blame the uni for everything that their missing out on. You gotta put yourself out there to make friends and have a good time.

I live near Leeds and i choose Herts and im lovin every minute of it!
Also theres a new union bieng made called 'the Forum' which is well under way and is expected to be open in sep 2009!
