Jobs without References

Where can I get jobs that don't need references, and pays above minimum wage (obv there are plenty that don't)? Hope to do it for a year before moving on, but things like call centres, council and offices won't take you on without 2 references.

Surely you have a school teacher or something? How old are you? If you are really struggling I'm sure you could manage a teacher/tutor reference and a character ref from a family friend or something?

The lecturers and personal tutor who know me have left the department, as has the one manager at my previous (and only) workplace. Family friends are in other countries.

The references these day are so specific - someone of a valid position who has known you for at least 2 years, and has seen you in the past 6 months... like, c'mon, they're not leaving much chance here are they??? No wonder many people go on the dole, when job applications and acceptance is stuffed full of bureaucracy.
