Nick McBride's 'Letters to a Law student - a guide to studying Law at university'. Look no further than that for an insight into approaches to studying Law. You won't find much of a generaly introduction to Law itself in there as its all about how to study Law.

I'd suggest buying a good textbook on the English Legal System before commencing the course. Whatever university you end up at, some element of your first years exams/assessment is likely to be on the English Legal System - Judicial Precedent, Statutory Interpretation, Woolf reforms etc. Get ahead on these by reading a textbook on it. If you are feeling really ambitious, you could read a thin textbook on say Criminal or Contract law but that's only if you really have got time and nothing more interesting to do.
I think the university that gives you an offer would give you a reading list as wel.
