Politics and Philosophy

Was wondering why no one on this board really discussed this course. It sounds amazing, pretty much everything that I love.

I’ve always been the type of person who reads up on politics/history on the net and even philosophy(but such a huge field so I don’t get far).I go on several forums where I debate philosophy/politics with people.

Wondered how the rest of you guys viewed this course ?

I have read books like

1984 and animal farm by George Orwell
Manufacturing Consent by Noam Chomsky
Deterring Democracy by Noam Chomsky
Hegemony or Survival by Noam Chomsky
Che Guevara: A Revolutionary Life
Das Kapital by Karl Marx
Man Search For Meaning - Viktor E. Frankl
The Republic - Plato
The Prince by Machiavelli
The Art of War by SunTzu
Discourse On Method- Descartes
The Communist Manifesto - Marx
Malaparte - Coup d’Etat - The Technique Of Revolution
Socialism: Utopian and Scientific - Engels

And some more, but can’t remember them right now.

I really have high hopes for this course:smile: I also want to learn French, but I think I would be taking on a bit too much.

its nice to see people so keen
I thought about it for ages but dont like doing the ethics side of philosophy so instead im going to do poltics but do philosphy modules within it.

If you like Chomsky (which is pleasing to see) then you may like Bertrand Russell and Goldman etc

'Understanding Power' and 'Chomsky On Anarchism' are good to as they cover loads of issues, and very educational.
read Capitalism, Socialism and Democracy by Joseph Schumpeter
I'm receiving a Bachelors of Arts in Political Science and these are the books that are the most important in terms of how politics relate to our lives:

Antigone - Sophocles
Apology and Republic - Plato
Politics - Aristotle
City of God - Augustine
Summa Theologica - Aquinas
The Prince - Machiavelli
Leviathan - Hobbes
Second Treatise of Government - Locke
Treatise of Human Nature - Hume
Discourse on the Origin of Inequality and On the Social Contract - Rousseau
Grounding for the Metaphysics of Morals - Kant
On Liberty and Utilitarianism - Mill
Communist Manifesto - Marx
On the Genealogy of Morality - Nietzsche
