When talking about materials, for example an alloy, if you say it has been cored what does that mean? I dont see the difference between coring and annealing. Also why is coring bad? Thanks for any help.

Have you tried typing "coring" into Wikipedia?

If you've studied phase diagrams, it's basically what happens when you cool a mixture (i.e. more than one phase) too quickly and you end up with a concentration gradient in the grains (i.e. more of one phase in the middle, with less towards the outside of the grains).

I can't remember much more sadly, since it was in my materials course last year, but if you want to know more, look into phase diagrams and that kind of stuff, maybe try reading the handout we got.
