Re: BBC Work Experience?I don't know what EPNS is, but yes what you have said is right, thanks.(Original post by unknown demon)
Get to grips with EPNS, no doubt you will be using that, talk to people about your ideas, ask what they think, do not fear rejection, to many people from interns to new grads have some sort of fear about approaching veterans whatever area they go into. Ask for help, ask questions well not badly/stupidly, do not ask the obvious since the BBC is really about being on the ball all the time.
I rather didn't talk with people about my idea's rather I forwarded them by email in a .ppt file, I think the people who saw it were quite positive about it but I want to do more.
I communicated a bit through email though.Last edited by mosesff; 18-07-2008 at 19:26. -
Re: BBC Work Experience?
Hiya I have done work experience at the bbc and it was rubbish, they left me sitting in reception for an hour when I arrived and I just got put to sat in the corner and watch! Im a bright, intelligent individual who offered to help lots and it was a waste of time! So dont get too excited!!

Again read what I've written, if you make zero effort in the workplace i.e 'sit in the corner and watch' as you eloquently put it, expect nothing to happens. In the workplace you are expected to be very proactive especially in the BBC. Imagine if everyone did that, there would be blank spaces in news reels or on air time. Nothing would happen and millions would complain.
Seriously go have a think about the opportunity you did not use properly. -
Re: BBC Work Experience? It's actually ENPS not EPNS. I've linked the word to wikipedia article, you can google it for more info(Original post by mosesff)

Re: BBC Work Experience?
Just to answer the first question in this thread re: when you'll hear back from the BBC; I applied for a placement with the world service way back in october and only just got the confirmation I'd been offered a two week placement this morning. I'm yet to accept it though as I've already booked my flights to go home for the Easter break, assuming I'd been unsuccessful - does anyone know how flexible they are with starting dates as I'd really like to start the placement probably after my finals in June... looking back over my initial application I have stressed that my availability dates are subject to change but I don't want to push my luck as it's a pretty special opportunity... dilemma, dilemma

Re: BBC Work Experience?Oh so they DO leave a message? I've applied for a placement and was really worried when I saw that thing on that wikijobs article earlier in the thread saying that if you miss the call they won't leave a message and will just move onto the next name on the list...(Original post by robbo3045)
I applied for work experience a few months ago, and had an answerphone message from them today asking if I could phone them back to arrange dates.
Am very excited. Was my first time applying for that perticular experience.
What did you apply for? -

I applied for a placement in the drama dept. Although they left a message for me, it is probably best to be vigilent on the phone call if you have not heard anything from the application telling you have been unsucessful. The woman told me that they get about 10 of the best sent through and they pick which one to call. But if you don't pick up or if they leave a message and you don't get back fast enough they will probably move on and find someone else. So I guess - don't really expect an answerphone. But they left me one on this occassion. -
Re: BBC Work Experience?Yeah I got a call today, but I couldn't make the dates, so I'm really hoping I get one of the other dates! They wanted me to start on Monday!(Original post by robbo3045)

Re: BBC Work Experience?
Twice I got left a voicemail for my BBC 6 Music placement. First time I missed the call but straight away I rung back and the second time I cut them off and I rung them back straight away. I got left 2 very nice voicemail messages, so yes they do leave a message in some departments. But I'm sure it depends department to department. I might have been lucky. Still use that wiki guide as a rule though, no mistakes, nothing!
