Re: The Somali SocietyNo its not that, its not with an official organisation. Last summer I did a lot of medically related work experince and my uncle asked me if I was doing the same this year and I told him I'm not (changed my mind about med, firmed chemeng). So he suggested that I do work experience in Somalia, not necessarily doing the things I do as a healthcare assistant but nevertheless he said it'll be worth it. He and my aunt know Edna Adan - this woman who built her own hospital in Hargeisa and not only did my amazing uncle get me a four week placement with her. He also managed to get me a volunteering position at Berdera hospital in Somalia - not exactly sure where in Somalia it is(Original post by In2deep)
The WSSP thing?
- but it'll be different to hargeisa thats for sure as its more of a university hospital than a proper clinic. One of my friends is going with me, and with us being Somali all it took for her parents to let her go was a discussion over tea
.

Re: The Somali SocietyThat is amazing, you are very lucky! Also, I think it might be Berbera Hospital, I imagine that would be very busy given that it is the City's main hospital judging from the name but trust me you'll love the city, it is beautifully located on the Northern coastline opposite the Red Sea(Original post by Maple)

Berbera is north of Hargeysa on the coast of the north sea, I only went there once just for the beach so I can't tell you much about the city
Yeah it is, I was very surprised by the heat and humidity since Hargeysa wasn't as hot but the beach makes all worth it.(Original post by Rtcw)
Berbera as city is very HOT place... I think you can break the egg on the rock and it will fry by itself.

Re: The Somali Society
Just finished Futuh Al-Habasha. Pretty epic book. He was no Khalid bin Walid (RA) but pretty much our own version of Salahuddin (RA) and Mehmet Fatih (RA). But Imam Ahmed (RA) died when he was about 36 years old, and these other guys (RA) all died in their 50s. I'm 100% sure if Ahmed Guray (RA) survived till his 50s, all of Abyssinia would've been muslims today. If the Somalis stop fighting over qabiil, Allah will give us power to unite all the muslims in East Africa once again. Ameen.

Name me a uni that has many somalis ; and does anyone here go to teeside uni?
I do realise this thread has been long dead, so won't be expecting a swift reply

Would like to find that out myself, could be one of the London universities or Coventry heard they have a large Somali student population -

Re: The Somali SocietyCan confirm Coventry uni, some Somalis I know, go to there. Somalis usually go to middle-lower end universities.(Original post by yusra121)

Re: The Somali SocietyYep Mohammed Farah the same guy who won over the Ethiopians and Kenyans, the guy is Unbelieveable. Also the fact that he put Farahs/Somalis on the map is really good, and his charity donating heavily back home is great.(Original post by Land-based mammal)
